LESSON 7

Counting steps

Mae's Detective School · Detective Starter Kit (10 free cases)
Counting steps is just walking: no hopping, no diagonals.

'4 steps from' counts squares up, down, left or right. Turns are fine, diagonals are not. Count through walls and objects too.

So '4 steps from the X' is a diamond around the X: for example 4 across, or 3 across and 1 down, or 2 and 2.

How to spot it

  • A clue with 'steps from' in it.

Mae's tip

Put your pencil on the object and count out the diamond. Then cross out what lies in taken rows and columns.

In your Detective's Dictionary
